Look who is Number 1 in the A.L.!

New York Yankees
86-56 .606
Detroit Tigers
86-58 .597

The Central division Tigers were the toast of baseball through the first 2/3 of the season, playing .700 ball. Gee, what happened? Not only have they lost their hold on the best record in the league (which determines who has home-field advantage in the playoffs), but they are also on the verge of losing first place. The Minnesota Twins are 2 games back now, but only 1 in the loss column. Meanwhile, in the East, the Yankees continue to steamroll their way to their 9th consecutive division title.

Comments:
The tigers are going down faster than a French prizefighter!

Faster than the prom queen on prom night...

That makes no sense. The Prom Queen is a person, and the Prom is an event. A person can't go down on an event. Plus, I had no idea this site was going to be dirty. Now I'll have to visit more often.

The Yanks aren't going to skate through the playoffs, though... Those Twins might just have the pitching to keep the ridiculous yankees lineup quiet.

Yeah, the Twins pitching is good. Santana & Liriano in a short series will be tough. One plus for the Yanks, with a big division lead, they'll be able to set up their rotation just the way they want. The Twins may have to battle down to the final day, and not set up their pitching staff to their best advantage for the ALDS.

Liriano going down for good yesterday = great news for Yanks in the playoffs.
