Yankees on brink

The face of futility

After last night's pathetic loss to the Tigers in Game 3 of the ALDS, the Yanks are on the brink of wasting their terrific 97-win 2006 campaign. My worst nightmare came true, when the pitcher formerly known as the Gutless Post-season Choke Artist (Kenny Rogers) shut down the "best lineup in baseball history" like they were a bunch of nerdy, myopic little leaguers. (And it's not just ARod's fault, folks.)

I actually shut the game off in the 6th inning and went to sleep. Why torture myself further? Now the whole season rides on the performance of number four starter Jaret Wright (11-7, 4.49) in Game 4. 23-year old Jeremy Bonderman (14-8, 4.08) goes for the Tigers.

Side note that has nothing to do with the Yanks being down 2 games to 1. I've said this before the series started, and I've said this in past seasons: The LDS should be seven games, just like the LCS and the World Series. Why should the whole 162-game season ride on a short series? What is the point of having a short series? Wouldn't MLB want the revenue from two extra games, anyway?

Comments:
Last night's game WAS pathetic, and A-Rod is probably suicidal by now. But even if it WAS a longer series, given the way the Yanks are currently playing, would it really matter?

"...try to recreate at least a semblance of the spirit they had in the summer."

I agree with that, Lab Rat. I know Bernie has good numbers vs Rogers, but I would have liked to see Melky in left last night and Matsui DHing.

Melky is an exciting young player, and it would be good to have that young blood in there again.

Torre should have argued that call, if for no other reason than to fire up his somnolent players. No word yet on tonight's lineup, but they need to be aggressive. In every facet of the game. Wright needs to go right at the hitters, challenge them. If he only gives 5 good innings, that fine. The bullpen is rested.

It makes me laugh.

Hello?

Two Points any asshole should know:

1) The Joy Of Baseball
and the Magnificence of Post-Season Play
and what makes it the Best Moment of All Sports Games, is...

duh, it's unpredictability.

This is BASEBALL, you **@# idiots!

A game of luck.
A game of inches. A game that needs six months and over 160 games
before it can determine who the best team is,
now squeezed into one series, do or die.

When (imperfect) Larson had his PERFECT game,
it was against none other than the
GOD DAMN world series playing
Brooklyn Dodgers!
Do I need to remind you?
Campanella, Hodges, Snider, Robinson, etc.

They went on to score 1 run in game six and 0 in game seven!!

WAKE-UP, SHUT-UP and BE BASEBALL FANS.

Point 2) you **@# hypocrites!

You SAY you want the Yankees to show up and play
the game for a full nine innings, that the Tigers
can be beat,
AND YOU GIVE UP AFTER THE 6TH!!!
HYPOCRITE.

'Lab RAt', you want the Yankees to
not to lose themselves, to play to their potential,
to have Brass Balls, well, where the hell are yours?

I suppose if Torre had taken your advise, played cairo and phillips
for the first three games and they were also down 2 to 1,
you would still be wanting them out there, keeping Arod and Giambi benched?
Hell no. HYPOCRITE.

I don't see you benching 'exciting, breath of youth' Cano. Why not?

Ask Jeter who he wants playing in today's game, around him.
I wouldn't be surprised if he said
"Win or lose, AROD and Giambi, playing their best".

And they will play their best.

Will their best play reach their potential? Who knows.

But, that's what 4 million paid to watch this year.

And win or lose, that's what I want to see today.

I always thought Magnum was a Detroit Tigers fan...

Hmmm...there may be a mole on this blog.

Ha ha! Notice, he didn't yell at ME.

I like Milhouse.
